The only screw I have really put any effort into was one of the buttstock screws, regular sized screw and will not come out for anything. I will not mess with this one. I tried one of the others on the receiver and wouldn't budge, so didn't force it. I am thinking this will be a wall hanger as restoration will cost too much. I started buying the old ones to just tinker on cold bluing, etc, but in over my head with this one...Hate to mess up a piece of history. I am on the I-81 Corridor near West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Thanks Mike.

If I were you, I'd get the hammer repaired, clean up the bores and get the tubes and action tightness checked. At that point you have a Shooter. Anything else is optional. You can do the wood yourself, with care. Barrel and action coloring can come later, if ever. Both my Daly's are in much poorer shape, if I had yours I'd be using it.
Please, don't go anywhere near this gun with Cold Blue.
Regards Ken

I prefer wood to plastic, leather to nylon, waxed cotton to Gore-Tex, and split bamboo to graphite.

What re you thinking on a cost to do minor repairs for a shooter and to preserve the gun? Thanks Start another thread. Title it "Need Hammer Repair", make sure you include the picture. One of the guys here will respond. Get the hammer repaired, and ask whoever does it to check barrel wall thickness and action tightness. Once the hammer is fixed and the other stuff checks out you're OK to shoot. Buy some Renaissance Wax off Ebay. Lube the gun properly, coat everything with RenWax and you have a Shooter. Go to Vintage Shoots, and hunt turkeys with it. Decide on other restoration aspects later. Regards Ken

Ken has it nailed. If the barrels check out and the hammer repair cost is reasonable you've got a very nice hammer gun for almost nothing. The idea of having a piece welded on and shaping the hammer yourself is also intriguing.

The bulk of the Lindner-Daly's left Suhl & headed to Bremen, where they boarded a ship enroute to New York. Those that didn't board at the Port of Bremen, along with Belgian wares, found their way to Antwerp & on to the U.S. of A. Even Auguste Schoverling, having only 18 years, on the 16th of Oktober 1858, boarded the Baekskibet(Bark)Anna Delius @ the Port of Bremen enroute to New Orleans. I'd say this was his entry into the U.S. of A. and the beginnings of he & Daly forming a concern that would become a sporting weapons magnate/powerhouse.
For any of those following along closely or with additional interest, the Baekskibet(Bark) Anna Delius was built in 1854 at Bremen, Germany. Her dimensions were: length 148 feet, beam 30.8 feet and depth 20.5 feet.
Cheers,
