Great stuff, both of them. I would love to own either one! Thanks for sharing that.

Likely barrels by Brad and frame by Doug. Which is what i kind of suspected all along.

The colors looked like Dougs to me. And the photo of the barrel flats shows the polishing onto the flats that is typical of what comes out of Brads shop.

The gun likely went through Dougs shop. As Doug does not do damascus finishing in house. He sends them to Brad. Doug told me this himself

Thanks guys. I'm pretty stubborn about such, and still believe the wood has never been off the "original" gun. Those little "blisters' as I call them, in the wood finish on the fingers of wood where they meet the action and sideplates, along with the wood-to-metal fit that looks like the wood grew around the action, are something nothing but time can produce.

I've been at this 45 years and have learned how to pay attention to these little things, at a bought price I might ad, that a lot of people run past or overlook on purpose.

I think there is a possibility the barrels have been restored, but nothing definitive there either. I truly believe the gun is with it's original case coloring and wood finish. Jmo.

Stan, if steamboats were $100 apiece, all I could do is run up and down the bank shouting "man, ain't that cheap!"

Mr Roberts, I agree with you wholeheartedly and 'time' can produce them only once - just once. Those "blisters" are caused by the sap, still in the wood at the time the stock was originally finished, over time coming to the surface and causing them. Once refinished it will never happen again with that piece of wood...

But, if the owner of the gun says it is refinished, I guess he oughtta know.

And Steve is not the owner of that gun - it is consigned with him.

Agree, Larry. This one bothered me a lot as well.

Notice the wood finish similarities between it and and the 20 ga.

That gun is a nice original gun with honest wear, but still high condition. Your observations about the wood finish are completely correct.

I looked through the Parker listings there and I am interested to see that one Parker in particular is being advertised as completely original and minty though it is not. Since I am the one that did the restoration work on it to make the gun right looking as it is today. I guess you can't attach a disclaimer to guns once it leaves you own hands.

He has a bunch Of Hammer Parkers in, but I think he has errored on the description of one of the most impressive little 20 gauge Parker hammer guns extant. He lists this gun as totally restored by Brad Batchelder. I told him it is totally original in every way:

Compare to a higher-grade one that is obviously restored:

What say ye?

Lots of fine stuff there, but knowing that modern craftsmen can reproduce old finishes to whatever percentage look the customer desires someone with many years of experience looking at guns with original finish would have to look over in person the actual gun(s). I would venture to bet that Colt Single Action Army collectors are better than Parker Brothers guys at judging original finish on stuff like this.
