Found this in my photo archives and it is a bit of a mystery. The only markings on it are 'The Grand Prix Gun' Birmingham. It is a 12 bore double of mediocre quality. Anyone come across another or has more information? Lagopus.....

Not a bad looking knockabout gun. This looks like an attempt at putting together something that could be assembly-line made. Too bad it's located in England this would be wonderful upgrade for Burch of "Need a better classic fame".

Thanks Drew. I've done quite a bit of research recently on Midland Guns but have never come across one marked Grand Prix Gun. All their guns were given fancy names but only consultation with the catalogue would identify the model. They did make a lot for the trade so it may have come about in that way. I can find nothing in my records of a Grand Prix Gun Co. Can you tell me where you found that information please? Lagopus.....

Thanks Drew. I can't say I have come across this company before. Looking at the thread you posted it looks like they have taken an old Martini/Henry service rifle and smooth bored it out to 20 bore or something and then sold on what was once an old military contract rifle as a shotgun. I have come across similar conversions before and looks as if the Grand Prix Gun Co. may have done this sort of work. Lagopus.....

I had a Double Rifle BLE through my shop just recently. 450/400 x 3&1/4" Also marked "Grand Prix Gun Co, B'Ham" I don't have access to it right now but it will be back in spring and I'll photo graph then. Based on recollection It appeared to be a 1920- 1940 era W.C.Scott type action. Interestingly I contacted two long serving members of the B'ham trade neither of whom has ever heard of The Grand Prix Gun Co.

Thanks Hugh. Nigel Brown gives no mention either in his vast tomes. Lagopus.....
