A very interesting WW Greener just closed at auction (http://www.gunauction.com/buy/14001921). I could not see a grade on the trigger guard tang. Any opinions as to the grade? Serial puts production in 1903. Action appears to be a FP, but I am still learning about these.

I thought the carved fences looked similar to the G-grade 10 bore pictured here (http://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=419418&page=2), but the 12 gauge I am asking about has game scenes, while the 10 gauge is all scroll. The tang of the 10bore is marked G3.

NEW PICTURES POSTED - SEE PAGE 3 ON 7-28-16

It should be marked what grade it is right beside the serial number on the tang behind the trigger guard but I can't tell from the pictures. Someone at some time has polished off a lot of the engraving. If I had to guess I would say the gun is or was a G60.

I have doubts that is the original case. Very nice case though.

What about the case causes you doubts, 1cdog? Is it that the style is not consistent with Greener? There certainly appears to be enough patina.

Thanks, just trying to learn how to spot fakes.

I liked the case too and the various accessories, which do seem original to the case. The Haymarket address in London was in use thru 1916, so that didn't trip any suspicions given the 1903 serial number.

What looks off? (Granted, I don't think the auction showed a single picture of the gun resting in the case.)

The pictures in the auction showing the flats weren't great...and Greeners seem to be blued on the flats (at least my 3 are), so they can be tough to read -- here's the one from the auction.

And here are the flats on a 12 bore FH35

And the flats from the 10 bore G3 mentioned in my first post

Looks a little like mine, I have carved fences and scalloped receiver. Same engraving. I wrote to Graham Greener by email and he gave me a history. Although I could not find any F designation he provided me with who at the shop made it including engraver and it was an F50.

I'm going with FH 45. The 45's had the serpentine fences. A 50 would have arcaded fences. Obviously a Facile Princeps action.

That's from Greener's book but Greener used those fences on Royals too (sometimes!). Greener's are tough because there is very little consistency.

BTW, it cannot be a Royal because there is no crown on the toplever.

I have a 45 Guinea Unique Ejector which looks the same as the gun in question other than it has rose and scroll instead of game scene engraving.

I think a 60 would be a Royal.
