I am sure this question has been asked a number of times, BUT! For a time someone was importing and selling a 45/70 SxS rifle made by Baikal...Is there still an importer and is that rifle still available some where? If so, where please? They seem to be scarce on the used market....Thanks...

No, the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant, a.k.a Baikal, that made MP 221 "Artemis" (the double rifle on MP43 sbs action) is under economic sanctions related to the Ukrainian crisis.

To the best of my knowledge, the gun isn't currently made. There are plans to revive it, but in calibers thought to be more popular in Russia. I could be wrong here, however.

Humpty,

What calibers are thought to be more popular in Russia?

Thanks,

7.62x54R (the Mosin cartridge) and 9.3x54R (Mosin necked up to 9 mm). That's a progress compared to the previous management, which insisted on making double rifles for rimless .308 and .30-06.

Interestingly enough, many Russian hunters say they would like to have a DR in .45-70, but this cartridge is not loaded in Russia, and the projected demand is not great enough to start loading it, so this chambering was made for export only.

So the 9.3x54R would be somewhat similar to the 358 Winchester? A decent moose round at closer distances, I imagine?

Also, at one time you could get an IZH-94 Express in 9.3x74R
Wish I could find a barrel set for my IZH-94 in 30-06.
At one time EAA sold barrels, but, ALAS, no more.
The US embargo on Russia because of Ukaine has halted this.

9.3x74R chambering is a rarity, and not available in Russia for the same reasons as .45-70.

The published figures for the 9.3x54R are: 600 meters per second with the 15 gram bullet, 650 m/s for 13 gram. In theory, this case can do better - the powder capacity is roughly the same as the .30-06
