Wow, wonder if there is a way to measure min barrel wall thickness between the two barrels. That is indeed weird looking.

My LC Smith 12 ga. Model 3E, built 1901, trap gun, 30 inch barrels, M/F chokes, has 1/8 inch gap between barrels at the muzzle. My 1916 Smith 12 gauge Trap Model also has a similar length barrels and similar gap. Neither barrels have been cut and the chokes measure out to what is stamped on the barrels. Jim Haynes

Nitro Special 16 gauge on the left, 26" barrels, Uggy Falcon on the right, 28" barrels, No sign of either having been cut:

Four sets of Darne barrels. No signs of being cut, on the far left, 12 gauge 68cm, 12 gauge 65cm, 20 gauge 65cm, and on the far right 28 gauge 65cm.
The chokes have been opened on the second from the left 12 gauge. None of them touch.

It would be profoundly difficult to shorten barrels on a Darne that has no under rib, suck as the two sets on the right. There is just a short little bit of metal rib on the bottom that holds the tubes together, at the front. It is much less than an inch in length.

Best,
Ted
