What did I just buy? I am getting what I think is a good deal on a plain BLNE Scott. The serial number suggests 1909 manufacture, but lists nitro proofed at 1 1/8 ounce, is that correct?

The winged bullet was a Webley trademark,like the Greener elephant trademark.If it had 1 1/4 proofmarks,it would be 2 3/4 chamber.

The chambers were measured at 2 and 5/8 inches at Abercrombie & Fitch in 1954. It was sold as a used shotgun by A&F in 1957.

Thank you very much sir. I love this place!
I measured the chambers at 2 5/8" with my handy dandy CSMC gauge was well, but I just assumed the difference in measurement was operator error on my part.
So according to those pieces of information the gun was for sale for 3 years at A&F before it was sold?
Very interesting to me,
Thank you again,

I believe if you measure a lot of British guns you will find the vast majority of the So-Called 2˝" guns will have 2 5/8" chambers or at least 2 9/16" (65mm). Actual 2˝" chambers will I believe be mostly confined to extremely early breech loaders in 12ga. The smaller gauges may have had true 2˝" chambers, not sure about them.

When I get it all back together.
I pulled it apart right away to refinish the wood. The action was stripped and blued at some point, so their is no originality left to ruin. I was worried about how dense the checkering was versus the American and Spanish guns I am used to working on, but I am taking it slow and it is going OK. Outside of the name on the side of the receiver and name and address on the top rib there is no engraving at all on the gun, so it must have been of a very low grade.
Progress thus far;

There is a chip missing out of the stock at the bottom of the receiver, so after a strip I will get that repaired and then a refinish and she should be good for another 100 years.

Stripped, and I replaced the missing chip of stock. I am hoping that I will be able to hide the joint a bit with some oil paints when I oil the stock (I use truoil). I am getting there. This is the first time I have ever done a repair like that so be gentle with me!
