I want to replace front metal bead with modern front sight containing tritium insert. I need to know what thread size to order. The gun in question is 20ga New Ithaca Double extractor gun w/o cocking indicators. Thanks in advance.

jager: just curious, what would be gained by changing the front sight of a double gun?

Jag, consulting an Ithaca service manual, it could be--"brass threaded (no thread info stated), a a Lyman #10 plug , a Lyman #10D screw type OR a 6-48 RayBar." I think you said it now has a brass sight so my suggestion is to unscrew it and measure the threads. My guess is it will be a 3-56 based upon a brass sight I have in front of me. Sorry I can't be more definitive.

Thank you. I'm just trying to modernize the gun a bit and make it more appealing to greater number of potential buyers if I ever try to sell it. You know, increase the pool of potential buyers. I'm going to order one of them Marble Sights when I figure exactly what thread size I need.

By altering the gun, you actually decrease the size of the pool, not increase. I don't know where you get the notion that hotrodding an NID makes it attractive to a larger pool unless you replace the action with an AR receiver, barrels with .223 barrel and stock and forend with AR plastic stock and forend. Who pays attention to a bead when wingshooting?? (conceding deer or turkeys where bead would be useful, but a 20 NID is not a preferred gun of choice for either.) If you feel the need to use a tritium bead, charge on, but forget about it making the gun more marketable by doing so.

I agree, I also think that would not only decrease its value but the pool of potential buyers. An NID, while a great American classic, is not exactly in your top tier of American classics as far as collectors are concerned. Or, in other words, comparing their prices, no one is "chomping-at-the-bit" to buy an NID especially one that has been 'modernized.'

It's your gun do what you see fit. But If I was looking for a 20G NID would pass on a glow front sight gun as a possible indicator of something else messed up not so easy to spot.

I'm not at all concerned about Jagermeister adversely affecting the value of a smallbore N.I.D. by installing a tritium sight.

I'd guess that what he is actually doing is attempting to manufacture some legitimacy by posing as a double gun owner. He recently admitted that he didn't even own a double gun, and that his one and only shotgun was a modern short barreled Ithaca Model 37 pump that he had previously tried to pawn off as a military trench shotgun. Hell, this is a guy who actually rents the .22 LR rifle he claims to use. Here's Jagermeister only 6 days ago congratulating Lloyd on his actual purchase of a 20 ga. Flues:

No other classic American small-bore can come close in quality to price to that offering. Enjoy your new treasure.

Doesn't sound like comments from a bona fide owner of a 20 ga. N.I.D. to me. Yes, he could have actually bought it, and those pictures of Obama shooting a shotgun could actually be legitimate. But I wouldn't bet on either. Maybe Jag will post some pictures as proof, and then I'll post some pictures of the Czar's Parker and Bo Whoop as proof that I own them.

Here's the Czar's Parker. I'm thinking of putting a tritium sight, Dura Kote, and sling swivels on it. Maybe camo paint on the stock, and choke tubes too. What do you think?

A true sign of mental illness is any gun owner who would vote for an Anti-Gunner like Joe Biden.
