I've been to two of the lodge/outfitters mentioned. Border Bucks in Missouri is an excellent deer hunting destination run by good people. I've been there four times to shoot television programs for Bowhunter Magazine TV. Their deer stands are well thought out and set up safely. I've been other places where stands and steps were set by a twenty something wearing shorts in August. Now try a fifty something dressed for cold weather in November climbing into them. The Border Bucks tree stands were NOT that way. Easy to climb into with proper shooting lanes over well traveled deer corridors. We were successful each time we were there. Bill Hill and his wife are wonderful hosts with good food and very nice accommodations.
There is another lodge mentioned in this list in another state that was not as described. Poor accommodations, poor food, with bad stand placements. The owner had the place full of mounts he'd shot on a private hunting club property. Of course the guest hunters couldn't go there. I won't go back there. . . or mention the name of the place.

I will try to figure out which of these outfitters are the bad ones.

What's bad? Shooting poultry at a preserve is what it is. If you like all inclusive resort vacations, some resorts have ukele'le classes, and a roast pig, and some have gamebirds and fireplaces.
I'ts a vacation package on a preserve. Enjoy it for what it is.
I never thought I'd ever say it, but as my buddies got older, we have enjoyed a couple days a year together at preserves. I'm glad we have.
Out there doing it best I can.

For my friend's teenage son, both are gone now may they rest in peace, it was like pulling teeth to get him up and out for a day's hunting. We went to preserve near Smock PA and he loved it. The next time we went he was standing there on the porch ready to go as I drove into the drive way.
Good game preserves serve a purpose.
