Any one that would buy an expensive double shotgun without knowing the facts about the barrels is going to be very unhappy one day.

Timid - nice tool kit!! Consider a lighted loupe for some serious magnification of various aspects of guns.

DDA A lighted loupe. Interesting, I have been off and on a working photographer for more than 30 years and have had a variety of loupes but never a lighted one. I used a light box under a loupe for my purposes. Do you suppose you could direct me to where I could purchase one. Thanks.

".if a guy showed up with that kit, i would ask him to move on and not take up space and time that could be occupied by a serious retail buyer…" Ed Good
You presuppose an interested party is not interested. i never ask to measure a gun unless I am serious. I wonder how many sales you have thwarted with your misdemeanour attitude?

gee foxie...that aint nice nor called for here or anywheres else... Yeah, right Ed. Foxy's comment came shortly after you referred to Tamid's novel tool case as a "price chiselers tool kit". The last thing you'd ever want is for someone to take anything more than a cursory look at something you had for sale. How's that near impossible return policy of yours go???... I know what I am selling and you are expected to know what you are buying... what a joke. ..if a guy showed up with that kit, i would ask him to move on and not take up space and time that could be occupied by a serious retail buyer... You said that right after telling us how you used to take your own inspection tools to gun shows in a gas mask bag. Caveat emptor! If we all remain nice and civil to Ed, does anyone really think that he'll ever be anything besides an anti-gun troll?
A true sign of mental illness is any gun owner who would vote for an Anti-Gunner like Joe Biden.

The last gun show I attended, and the only one in 15 years, was in Norcross GA a few weeks ago. 2000 tables supposedly, although I think it was short of that. There was one guy with a few worn A5s, another gentleman with a beat up Parker VH and a few coach guns. The rest of the tables were taken up by AR15 clones, polymer pistols and few old military bolt actions. Someone may have come in and made off with the good doubles before I got there, but I didn't see a single decent bird gun in the whole show.
I admire the kit, and I hope you have better luck than I did.

good doubles at any thing other than a collector's show might be rare. The kit is in the truck in case
i put my kit together after passing on might have been a really great deal for a Parker hammer gun at a antique show (the too perfect bores concerned me). and have used it at such shows since. Although I am surprised at the gun dealers who cannot answer basic measurement questions- the average antique dealer will not even know what you are talking about. i have never had one refuse to let me measure, and most are interested in what i am doing.

I kinda understand Ed's point, though he of course has ruined more guns than I'll ever see.
As a seller, the sort of buyer who shows up with a kit like that would alert me to two things:
1) He's gonna take a lot of time looking at the gun, and might even start disassembling it. Every time a gun is 'handled' it sees the potential for damage. Do I want that?
2) Chances are he's a pain in the ass to deal with - not only in terms of 'what is the gun' but also in terms of the commercial side of things.
I'd be tempted to tell him to take a hike, preferring to sell it to someone less fussy.
Then again, if I were selling a $1000+ double, I'd have already recorded the important dimensions which seems impossible for sellers to do....

and that's the point - if dealers would - we would not need to if they won't - we are foolish not to as a buyer- if you cannot give me wall thickness and such details and you won't let me verify the conditon of the gun- you won't have to tell me to go- i'd be gone

any gun dealer at a show that would not allow a inspection of a gun, would be a big red flag for me. I could understand if the buyer wanted to use screwdrivers to take it apart, I would say no. But removing the barrels, and measuring them would be fine with me. I have learned that gun chislers stand on both sides of the tables at shows. Ed Good I am glad to hear that you do not do any shows, you do much better selling on line with poor photos and no hands on inspection with a no return policy.
