I just received a catalog from Connecticut Shotgun that has a Christian Hunter drop plate shotgun on the cover. I am comfortable with box lock, side lock, and drop lock guns but I do not familiar with a drop plate shotgun.
The cover of the catalog shows what I believe to be the drop plate but there is no information concerning the function of the drop plate, Obviously it provides an opening to the mechanics of the gun but if there are no locks that drop out it seems, to the uninformed, unnecessary.
I guess I need an education.
Thanks in advance for your responses.

No, you're right, it's pretty much worthless. I guess the only advantage is....there are no floor plate pins to bugger up?

Westley Richards made a "fixed lock" drop plate shotgun. I've seen a few of them for sale from time to time, but couldn't find a listing on the net. However, on the WR blog Heronshaw there is a reference to this boxlock style. I'm not sure why the Christian Hunter gun is made in this style. Ken

Be interesting to see one of these guns in person, maybe they will have a couple of guns on display at the Southern for a hands on

Possibly for ease of inspection and maintenance?

More gimmick than anything if I correctly understand what they mean. After all, only one screw retains the floorplate on a typical boxlock.

Next on the horizon is the "Muslim Hunter", chambered in 5.56.

I know it is described as a "drop plate" and there are not any pictures of the locks out of the frame, but I don't see any pins protruding through the sides of the action. Seems that without pins it might be a "drop lock" by another name? I just assumed it was a drop lock design. "Starting at $12,500" seems to indicate more than a scalloped frame box lock with a hinged plate.
