What craftsmen are around who do a good job recovering vintage leather gun cases? I have an original W.R. Pape oak & leather case, c. 1872, on which the original leather covering rotted off. The case is now stripped of the rotted leather down to a "match box" softwood underneath. The original red felt interior, oak rails and secondary wood case are all intact, but it needs to be recovered. The case has original W.R. Pape labels, including a Pape trade label in the center of the lid, plus a label on the right giving Pape's load instructions and one on the left with his cleaning instructions. In the compartments are an antique loading press, a calibrated bronze measuring scoop for measuring powder (and maybe shot too) and a mahogany handled screw driver with a thin bit for the gun. The case and its contents are so original and interesting that I feel that it is worth recovering. I would like to explore what good quality options are out there, if any, to do the job for an affordable price.
