I picked up this rifle a short time back it's marked "L.W.Barnard" on the stock and barrel. It's a 22/250 built on a 1907 Oberndorf 98 Mauser action.

One unusual feature is the use of a plate in the trigger guard that takes up the slack making the two stage trigger into a crisp single stage 3 pound trigger.

I'm guessing the gun was made in the 1950's maybe early 1960's ?

Just curious if any one here has heard of him.

Don't know Barnard but that's a handsome varmint rifle of the period. I know whiteline spacers make traditionalists puke, but remember that back in my youth they were the height of fashion!

Is the stock maple or Claro? I'm not a wood guy, so can't really tell (although it looks sweet enough to pour on a hotcake to me). Thanks for posting!

It's birds eye maple...I'm not crazy about the white line spacers either.

Nice stock inletting, a lot of over-runs on the checkering though, a classic varmint rifle of the late 50's to early 60's. Roy Weatherby has a lot to answer for by introducing those white line spacers that have no place on a rifle. I've never heard of Barnard, sorry.
