The number under the buttplate looks to be either 1261 or 1267. Number 1284 is in my possession and was invoiced in November 1965. Number 1263 is in my dads collection and was stocked in 1964 I believe. Number 1168 is a 275 H&H magnum and the owner has the original Shelhamer receipt dated 1955. Based on this, Tom was doing about 20 jobs a year, and this little .218 Bee was likely made in about 1964. He was at the end of his stock making career at this point.

If anyone has any other Shelhamer numbers I would love to add them to my database. His shop records are out there somewhere, but may never surface again.

Thanks,
John

Until I saw that, I always thought my Hart barreled .218 Bee, stocked by Hal Hartley, was the ultimte. I concede defeat.

As respects Shelhamer stock #1198 was done about 1956 on a Husqvarna Mauser barreled by L H Brown, a smithy who bought some of Niedners old equipment. This rifle was owned by Carlynn W. Behrmann who was a worker at Niedners in the 30's.

At this time Shelhamer was wearing two or three pairs of glasses when he was doing stockwork.

I have pictures but cannot figure out how to post them here.
