In my opinion, matting over crolle is not attractive



But this is nice. The rib looks to be Corche/Herringbone also

That last one is really classy, Drew. The rib is so pretty it takes your eyes away from the barrels.

I think, if I'm not mistaken, the 45-50 LC Smiths had the wavy/squiggly matting, not the dotted, on the raised rib/SSP

Here's another, and I don't know when the change was made. We DO know that the gauge mark was only 1945-1950, but doesn't seem to be universal.
