Last season was my first season of using #2 ITX shot in my Rem 1894 10 ga. I use this gun for late season diver hunting and geese. When I do my part, the results are indistinguishable from lead.

Oskar,

Those are great pictures. No salt water here but plenty of muck and mud. Do you use a fold or roll crimp with the 2.5"shells. Do you buffer them?

Thanks

Just roll crimp them no buffer.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

The comments on ITX shot look promising.

Thanks!

The end of the duck season is almost here. The ducks forgot to show up. Plenty of Canada geese and pheasants though. Here is the status of my reloading with ITX. It performs very well and moderate velocities seem to work as well as high end loads. I settled on 1 oz of number 4 shot, RIO hulls,PT1220 wads and Longshot powder. The real point of this post is to make note of the fact that pattern performance was very different from gun to gun, choke to choke. The difference is enough that I am loading specific loads for my primary guns. I guess it is not much different than loading specific loads for individual rifles. The difference was significant and I felt it worth mention.

Bismuth metal is as low as it has been in several years. Under 5 bucks a pound the last time I looked. Problem is that bismuth shot is a very minor market and there are few makers to buy from. The shot we buy today was made with much higher priced raw materials. One of the internet chat boards had a fellow making it several years ago. Perhaps he will get back into the game.

Oskar, ouch, about the KTM and stocks. If you have any KTM leftover, couldn't you salvage the pellets and handload them in a milder load with less shot to protect your vintage fowler? The big cost in in non-lead rounds is the shot, not the remaining components. If KTM is anything like NICE shot, a direct substitution of it for lead is safe. (If one beleives the literature. Not so with ITX.) Gil
