Hi All, Does anyone know if The Double Gun Journal ever published an article on the early Webley & Scott guns, prior to the company reorganization. Thanks, Rob

None to my knowledge. So little information has survived. Unbelievable for a major gun maker who carried on until recent times. I'm going to hazard a guess that Scott made more guns than all the other English makers combined in the decades leading up to WW2. About all we have for information is the little book, "The History of W & C Scott Gunmakers", by Crawford and Whatley. Commissioned by Holland & Holland, who own the name, it is rather difficult to find.

I do not remember which issue it was in,but, I do recall an article on 40 some SXS imported in the '60s or '70s that may have covered 28 gauge guns.

I'm weak on Webley & Scott, and company reorganization date, and I just don't have the time right now to check out these Webley & Scott articles, taken from the exterior of my Webley & Scott file folder - Double Gun Journal (DGJ) Winter 1999, page 193 (Good Article) - Army & Navy #23821 (W&S Screw-Grip) DGJ Spring 2002 page 141 (Hoffman Arms!) - A Multinational Gun (W&S Screw-Grip 20GA) DGJ Winter 2004 page 123, - The Ed Zern Gun (Army & Navy Sidelock) You didn't ask, but there's another magazine with good multi-barrel shotgun articles - Shooting Sportsman (SS) magazine. SS Sep/Oct 1999 page 144 - The Ubiquitous Webley & Scott SS Sep/Oct 2002 page 82 - The Ubiquitous Screw-Grip SS Mar/Apr 2003 page 16 - Gunmaker's Gunmaker SS Sep/Oct 2003 page 104 - The Webley & Scott Boxlock. This list is NOT up to date - so there will likely be more W&S related articles in the recent years of both publications....but I have not yet winnowed nor mined them. I claim credit for all errors/typos. Hope this helps. And WELCOME to the board - lots of good info and good people here.

Joe mentioned the limited run book "The History of W. & C. Scott Gunmakers" by J. A. Crawford and P. G. Whatley. There were two editions, 1986 and 1991 (ASIN: B002J5LHVU). As he said, it is impossible to find, only one copy being listed in a library. Since that is in the US and I am in the UK, I am unable to access it easily!
I wondered if anyone on the board has a copy which they would be prepared to delve into on my behalf with regard to a particular person who was connected with the firm, briefly, in the early 1900s? It is a real long shot that this individual might be mentioned, I know.
Grateful for any assistance.
Thanks
Tim

Very kind of you chaps, but I really only need to know if a certain fellow gets named in the book, for research on my own book. W&C Scott are not on my current radar screen otherwise!
Plus I'm a mean bar steward ...
