Hi all, I've been banging my head up against the wall trying to find a LP 16ga load with a 1 1/8oz payload.
I've tried all over to find one, 16ga BBS, 16ga Yahoo Group, spreed sheets from the LP group, Lymans 5th etc. Just can't seem to find any.
So.....I'll ask here. Here's what I'd like, a 1 1/8oz payload. Please no 1oz loads, 1 1/16 would be fine. Pressure around 7000psi or so, using Longshot, 800-X or PB powder, fold crimp, please no roll crimp, and a velocity of around 1150 to 1200fps. Hull would be 2 3/4" Federal, Cheddite or Fiocchi
So if you have a recipe, let me know.
Thanks so much!
Greg

I glanced thru the 16ga Manual from BPI. I do not see anything even close to your desired psi and fps desire. Ungodly psi and fps galore. I have 3 vintage 16 ga SXS's and just stick to 1 oz and Rem hulls and have all kinds of recipes for your desired wishes and never need shot cards or such. I am in the process tonight of starting to load 16 ga shells Rem Hull, Unique 19 gr. Rem 209 primer WAA 16 WAD for 1165 fps and 8600 psi I know you said no 1 oz but this is what I do and avoids a lot of frustration with components.

I know you said no 1 oz but this is what I do and avoids a lot of frustration with components. This is my take on it as well. If I want LP 1-1/8 I take the 12ga. Or, if you can live with lower velocity, take Jon's 8300 load above, drop the powder and have it tested. This is my approach with 20ga right now. Just a thought.

Pressure on longshot seems to go up fairly quickly. I would try reducing two grains and then four grain loads. Have them tested. Don't know how reliable they might be in cold weather but I never had a problem with longshot. You could contact Hodgdon directly. They often have tested loads not listed on the website and are very helpful.

Here's my primary 16 ga. wild pheasant load, my favorite over many years:
Old WW compression formed hull WW209 primer WAA16 wad 18.8 gr./WSF 1 1/8 oz magnum #6
This is at the upper end in pressure, but I've used it in many guns and it is superb. Patterns are excellent.
Because of this load, the 12 stays at home...
