Did these guns imported by H and R all come cased ? Anyone know a source for parts for a 728? The piece in nose of frame that works the left ejector is broken and has been removed. What is this part called? Thanks,Bobby

Isn't the 728 a typical A&D design? Usually the extractor cam is on the knuckle in the center and the cocking dogs perform both cocking the hammer and act as a trip for the ejectors.

You are totally out of luck finding a pre-made part. This is one for a GOOD double gun smith. I wonder if enough weld could be added to reshape it. However, proper heat treating such a fix might be a trick. Chance of finding a used part is slim too. The 728 is a scaled down frame.

It can be welded and heat treated but you really need to know what kind of rod you are adding and some knowledge of the parent metal really helps, as does a world class welder. I'm not near good enough at welding to do these types of repairs but I use a great craftsman with vast knowledge of both metalurgy and firearms. PM me if you want his name Bobby.

I'm not sure whether all the 720's and 728's came cased, but a lot of them did--as did quite a few 700's. But we're going back 40 years or so, and some have obviously become separated from their cases in the interim.

Bbman If it is a boxlock like the ones in the picture there is good and bad news, good news is the left cocking leaver is a mirror image of the right one and there is only one hole in it. It is very possible to file one from a piece of steel given a little patience, I have made a number of these now because of a broken ejector claw, I usually use the steel from an old file after annealing it. The not so good news no off the peg spares and you will have to adjust the ejector timing after fitting the replacement. Or pay a gunsmith to do the work.

They were originally sold cased with the accessories. I still have the original small sized catalog from H&R. It also included the Greener Harpoon gun cased as used in Jaws. The cased 728 was listed for $700. I bought one years later from Jacque's for $2750 and killed hundreds of doves with it until I got to reading about how I should be shooting with longer barrels. Good luck with your repair. Many 728's had beautiful wood.
