Post-1921 is a no-brainer. Pre-1921 is another story. Anybody have any insight?

If the gun is marked Remington Arms Co. it is from 1908 to 1910. If it is marked Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co. it is 1911 into 1916. Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co., Inc. 1916 into 1920. Remington Arms Co., Inc. 1920 on.

Skeettx: Thank you, from your Remington Society tables, it should be August of 1925. Shouldn't the barrel codes be active by that date?
Researcher: OK, on the top of the barrel it's marked Remington Arms Company, Ilion, New York. 1903 and 1906 patents. On the solid side of the receiver it's marked: Remington Trade Mark Model 10 245000
The butt plate says Remington UMC. From 1908 to 1910 it was my understanding they weren't identified as Model 10s. Union Metallic Cartridge is part of the logo after 1910 to 1916? I guess I don't follow the part after that. After 1921, I thought dating became quite easy from the barrel codes?

Sounds to me like that barrel didn't start life attached to that receiver.

No way to really know, but I was told it had been a local, one owner gun. It certainly looks it and the barrel is what you'd expect, full choke and 30-inches.

Lloyd,
The barrel will have a serial number stamped on the underside of the barrel.
If you have trouble re-assembling the gun because the barrel will not seat far enough in, the hammer must be dropped to move the ejector.
I believe, like Researcher01, that the barrel and possibly the entire front end are from an earlier gun.
