It is obvious the rifle is built on a surplus military action.It is not obvious,by whom, where,or when.The engraving on the reciever ring looks like that often used in Germany to coverup military markings.The stock, however, doesn't look German.It would be interesting to see any markings under the barrel and reciever. Photos? Mike

The front sling mounting and more so the way the front sight is mounted are suggestive of a 1930's custom build. It would be interesting if you removed looked at the stock in detail to see if there is a stock makers stamp anywhere as well as removing the butt plate looking for the same as suggested by skeettex. It could be a Dunlap or even a remodelling by Howe. Really more data is required.
