I bought a rifle barrel liner for a Remington hammer gun and it's marked 10ga 40- 2 1/2. I need some 40-65 or 40-70 cases. If anyone would have a couple they'd be willing to part with give me a email at bladesmith46#hotmail.com I'd really like to shoot it once it gets back from Bachelder who is fitting it and redoing the Damascus barrels. Thanks Paul

30.40 cases can be fire formed to 40.70 straight. 45. 70 can be made into 40.65. the base is larger on 40,65

I would make a cerrosafe chamber cast. Then send it to CH4D die. Get a set of form dies for converting brass. You can also get Rocky Mt Cartridge to turn cases to suit from the chamber cast. Set of dies is useful even with turned cases.

You certainly need a chamber cast from cerrosafe. But send it to Buffalo Arms Co. They will help you identify the cartridge, and there is a good chance they will have reloading dies in stock.

I went through this not long ago with a .40-70 Sharps bottleneck. I told the story about my quest here:

John Rigby & Co. 40-70 Bottle Neck Single Shot Rifle #15130

Good luck, and please report back.

Forgot to mention - Buffalo Arms Co. probably will have brass already made up for you also.

The .40 cal liners for Remington doubles that I have seen were for .40-70 "Sharps and Remington Straight." Easy to make if you have .30-40 empties or can be purchased formed as per previous poster.

Never saw one made for .40-65 Win. Doesn't mean there aren't any but I would bet they WEREN'T made by or for Remington--in those days they avoided the "W-word" at all costs.

Thanks for the replies - very helpful seeing how I'm not into bullet reloading, only shotgun reloading. I'll look up a old friend who's a gunsmith and likes to do stuff like this.
