Okay here's the situation.

All my guns are light weight game guns. For three years now my choice cartridge as the HULL imperial game either 26 or 28 gram 6's. I find it to be a very efficient cartridge on pheasant and partridge however its about 77/ 250

Looking for a cheap clay type cartridge suitable for pigeons in no more than 30 gram loading suited to 65mm chamberings - most clay carts seem to be 70mm

I'm also looking for a load that's 65mm cartridge, but with larger shot, longer range flighting crows, bolting rabbits and sensible ranged fox. Something in BB or similar.

I do reload with black powder but my equipment is basic to say the least. i hate using the black stuff when i don't have to just for ease of cleaning but even light 26 - 30 gram bb black powder loads i have found to be brutish effective right out to testing ranges.

I also like Imperial Game 26 for the field.

I use Hull Comp X (I usually use 21G) on clays. It is available in several load weights. Don't know price, but not expensive.

Can't answer for large shot.

I'll have a look, the thing i really struggle for is stuff with larger shot sizes in a 65mm cart. I'll take a look on just carts, but i was really hoping to hear what people on here put their faith in.

Think i found some lyalvale carts that would do for pigeon cartridges. For larger shot sizes it seems cheaper to carry on with black powder reloads.

Have a look at Eley Maximum. Can be found in all shot sizes from 6 to larger. I've never had a problem getting them in 1's and BB's. I 3/16th ounce of shot and made for 2 1/2 inch chambers. Lagopus.....

Another vote for Lyalvale Express Supreme. I have used these cartridges for some 15 odd years and never experienced any problems.

Sorry that my experience has only been with 6s and 7s; I've never had need for larger shot sizes.

Will get some layalvale ordered.

Light loads small shot sizes and open chokes seems to result in a lack of authority on longer range rabbits I find when they are bolting from ferrets and running on adrenaline they are usually well hit and die but not before they have gotten two inches out of arms reach down a hole further up. Increasing the shot size allows me to still use my classic guns, use light loads but still be effective and humane at longer ranges.

I'll take a look a elegy maximum also!
