The recent posts on gun safes, etc...has got me thinking. I have been thinking of placing my guns in "socks" while in the safe. I have heard others do this, but wanted to ask this here. I have been looking for a high quality gun sock to purchase and see. I have the one's Cabela's sells, silicone impregnated, but have not used it on my high grade guns. Was curious as to the thoughts of you all?
With a crowded gun safe, removal of guns can be tricky as to not bump and nick the other guns around it. The sock seems to me at least, a good way to cushion the gun while in storage. The goldenrod will take care of the mositure issues in the safe, and as I said, some socks are manufactured with material that breaths and resists moisture. Curious about what others do, and if someone can recommend a good heavy gun sock for such a purpose.

That's the method I use to avoid safe rash. I buy whatever socks are cheap without any other criteria but soft and cheap.

I use silicon socks from Cabela's, and elsewhere, on thsoe guns I move around alot. They do provide cushioning and help prevent nicks and bumps. Of course, they don't help during the trips through the briars and falls on uneven ground.

I like bore stores from Brownells in Iowa. Thick, impregnated, inexpensive- good stuff- not from china.

I had my guns in storage once and used the plain socks that you buy at gun shows for 5 for $15.00. They worked OK for my while my guns were in a gun safe for a few years. Good luck.

My problem with the idea is trying to tell which gun is which, pulling out several wrong guns before finding the one I want. I bought my safe without any interior and added wooden racks around the three sides to store them muzzle down. It has space for 22 or 24 guns. So far as I know, I've not put any dings in them. But, I don't have any really expensive guns. Maybe if I did, I'd think about casing the real valuable ones in socks. To me, it sounds like a complicated solution to a non-existent problem. JMO, of course.

I use a product called DampRid to keep the safe "dry". Near the ocean we have a lot of moist air and it seems to help keep the moisture off the guns. I also put canister of moistureremover on the floor of the safe, however, it is a plastic container and tends to spill when I remove the container. (it's messy) The DampRid is in its own contained package, no mess no fuss. jas
Currently own two Morgan cars. Starting on Black Powder hunting to advoid the mob of riflemen.

To solve the "which gun is this?" problem, I bought at Staples a box of yellow, cardboard tags (about 1 1/2" long) with strings, then put names on them with a medium, blak Sharpie. I then attached them to tie strings on the gun socks. The heavy, high contrast lettering can be read, even without much light and reading glasses.
