I'll look at it when we down to Mom's and get some more pics. Right now it's all packed up and ready to go. We head to the airport soon.

No the gun did not come from Cabela's. It came from my buddy that I work with. He bought it 10 years ago in Texas. He did a little preliminary work with it, verifying the rifle chambering and locating brass. By then he was on to something else and it spent the last ten years in his safe.

He said he has a copy of a gun magazine article that featured this gun. He couldn't remember which magazine but said he'd try to find the copy when he gets back home. That will be a while. He's on a six week hitch this go around.

I had it with me at my best friend's house this afternoon. He has a little gun shop in his home. While we visited one of his regular customers stopped by. The fellow was instantly smitten with it. I thought he was going to try to buy it on the spot. I need to play with it a little first and assured him it wasn't for sale .......yet.

Thank you. I've been quite taken with it.

I come here quite a bit but don't post much. The level of experience on this forum is such that I'm better off to either just ask questions or keep my mouth shut and pay attention. There is much to learn from the regulars here. This is a great forum and my go to site for information on classic old guns.

Well, it either moved or I lost my marbles temporary. Carbon copy at Rogers, Minnesota: reference Nr. 3924639

I wonder if the same fella did the lining?

Man that is wild. Nearly the same gun. Mine does not have that level of engraving though.

Marty,
The sights were originally filed in for the 8x58R load it was regulated for,and 222R will naturally shoot to a different poi.Due to the stiffness of the barrel bundle, it may not be very different, so recutting the rear sight may correct the problem. Also, changing to a different bullet may help.I have good luck with the 60gr Nosler Partition bullet. While heavier,it is not longer than the 55 gr, so it is likely to stabilize in a 1 in 14 barrel(assuming the liner is standard for 222,but it may be faster). If you try this bullet, you may be able to get closer by adjusting the load, w/o drastic sight changes.Re my previous comment, I think this will be a fun drilling to work with.

Both drillings was merely retailed by F.W.Vandrey & Co,Colonnaden 39, Hamburg. They were made for Vandrey by Franz Jaeger, Suhl. "Herold" was the Eingetragene Schutzmarke = registered trademark of Franz Jaeger.
