If you have a few moments between now and Christmas, I have a short holiday piece on the Collier's Magazine website. It is a free read. It is not a hunting story or a gun story, just a kind of dog man gone to hell story... but some of you may like it. Steve http://colliersmagazine.com/

So very nice. At 73, I have thousands upon thousands of memories. I guess "memory is a gift of God". Thanks

So very nice. At 73, I have thousands upon thousands of memories. I guess "memory is a gift of God". Thanks Me too- turned 73 on Nov 6th this year- Other than the writings of: Nash Buckingham, Ernest Hemingway (hunting related stories only). GSJ "The Prairie Queen" by Jack Curtis (30 years old at least but a great tale-- and Gene Hill's "The Stranger"- my all time favorite short story is "A Deer For Cholly Dorman" written by Charles Nicholson some years ago--as we age, I find myself reading and reading those kind of stories more and more--and when I depart this mortal world, I hope it's like Corey Ford's character in "The Road To Tinkhamtown"---
"The field is the touchstone of the man"..

Steve, great story and as we get older it does bring back memories of yesteryear. Your story touched me when you were young and your parents could not afford expensive gifts or really many gifts. My parents were the same, and always saw to it that my sister and I got all we asked for even though things were tough back in the 50's. Thanks for those memories and to all that are no longer with us. Merry Christmas.
David

Some people have unprotected sex all their life and have no kids to show for it or any other problems. Some have it once and pay for it for years with either kids to support or disease to have cured. I choose to be safe in as many ways as I can so I shoot only ammo that should not test proof status or the local ER's ability to repair or reattach external parts of my body.
They use to say God protects the young, the drunk and the stupid. Shooting Roman candles out of any double gun comes under the third in my book.

I will surely sit and read "this" Christmas Memories thread with my Wife and Grandchildren, definitely, every post until now. What nice, thoughtful, replies. "fools and drunkards bear charmed lives".
