Story goes grandpa had this made for my grandma sometime before they married in 1950. It was supposed to have been made in Jersey shore, PA by a man with last name of gottschall or some other spelling. I have both of Micheal's books and found a lot of information on the guns of period. I have seen some similar rifles but wondered if any one had any ideas. The butt plate is marked Bishop, front sight ramp is Pacific, lyman cocking piece sight, Remington Serial number has it being made in 1942.

BTW custom gunsmith 20th century vol.1 page 108 seems to show a unknown sporter with similar inlays.

I met Paul at a benchrest match in Johnstown, N.Y. in the fall of 1964. As I recall, he was owner of a machine shop and a skilled machinist who built his own rifles himself. He held a number of national records at one time

Here he is on the firing line.

Hi All:

I met Paul in 1962 at Reeds Run. At that time he had a machine shop in I think, Salem, Ohio. He was very active in benchrest shooting in the 50's and 60's.

The last time that I saw him was at a shoot where he was so frail that he had to carried to the shooting line. He passed shortly after that time.

He was a very nice man!

Stay well,

Franchi
