Hi:

While at the local skeet range today, I saw a very nice looking gun in the rack. I found the owner and he told me a bit about it.

The gun was made by CSMC, it was a 20 gage, had 4
x wood, two triggers, straight stock, cc action, dull finish, choked skeet and i.c., leather covered pad, and weighed less than 5.5 lbs. The owner complained about the recoil bothering him and the high cost of shells! The 28 gage hunting shells cost more than $21.00! He was shooting AA target loads today. This is going to be his grouse gun. Due to his strange body build, it did not fit well at all. I guess that his build is so unique, that to make a gun to fit, it would be only suitable for him.Read very little resale value. He needs a large amout of drop at the heel.

I think that he will be very happy with this gun but I worry abut him shooting so very high! After many misses, the charm may wear off. Anyway, to each his own.

What do you guys think about this gun? Would you spring for it?

Stay well my friends,

Franchi

p.s.
The cost you may ask. Let's say that it was 7 large. I mean $7000.00. It was very pretty but 7 large in the hand also looks very nice! Lol

Why was he complaining about paying the big bucks for 28-ga. shells when he could be buying 20-ga. shells for a quite a bit less? They'd work better in his gun, too.

20 or 28 gauge? Not clear from your post. Five grand tops if it is a 28 gauge and a real knockout. Seven thousand is ridiculous.

Assuming it was/is an RBL, anybody who drops $7K on a $4K gun shouldn't be complaining about the cost of shells. They are nice guns, so if you can get it at a reasonable price, buy it, regardless of gauge. I'd be surprised if he would be willing to take a big loss on a fairly new gun. Must be a Reserve, if it's an RBL, but still probably not a $7K gun in the real world.

At 5.5 lb., it would be the lightest 20 gauge RBL extant.

Hi All:

I made a couple of mistakes in my orginal post.

He said the gun was a RBL and it was a 28 gage not a 20 gage as I had reported.

One of the reasons that I posted this subject was to attempt to tie together some thoughts on the post about Spanish gun market. The RBL cost "$7000.00" but not many people were interested in spending that kind of money on a Spanish gun. What is the rationale on that othere than to "Buy American."

I do not want to start a pi$$ing match between the CSMC gun and a gun made in Spain. I have very little knowledge obout either or am I in the market for either gun. I have no idea as to what a RBL gun is.

I too was shocked as to why he would complain about the price of 28 gage ammo after spending that much coin on a 28 gage gun. He was planning to take a Grouse Safari to Upstate New York in a couple of weeks so money may not be an problem with this guy.

In retrospect, I guess that I was very underwhelmed by what $7000.00 would buy in a shotgun. Seven large may not be a vast amount of money for the people on this site, but to me. the gun would have to be a real knockout with great wood and some nice engraving!

I saw a Beretta 626 that was nice but...

Enough for now.

Stay well my friends,

Franchi

RBL's are good enough guns, but if I can pick up a new Spanish sidelock from one of the "name" makers for the same money--and there are plenty out there for less than $7K--I'm pretty sure the Spanish gun would be my pick.

If you want a copy of a traditional English sidelock game gun, i.e. straight grip, double triggers, splinter forend, etc, a Spanish gun would probably be a better pick. But if your taste runs more toward a traditional American style such as a Model 21's typical configuration of pistol grip, single selective trigger, and semi-beavertail forend, not to mention quick and easy service, the CSM RBL is the better choice.

If your friend actually paid $7K for an RBL 28ga, he probably got hosed. It is possible to option them up to that price range, and CSMC has some "hand built" or Reserve versions (right off the CNC machines), but it is still a very nice $4K gun.

I think the fellow is "asking" seven large for the gun. I don't believe anyone has paid that much for it, yet.
