Saw a nice 12 ga today 30" f x f serial number either 252x or 292x, Asking $475. out the door. Really clean barrels, Twist barrels, Seems to be very good condition. I was thinking of purchasing it and using low pressure RST or Polywad Vintager shells. Question does the price sold right and would I be OK using the vintage shells in this twist barrel.

There are some nice A.J. Aubrey/Sears&Roebuck side-locks out there. Price depends on what model you've found and safety depends on much more as Doc Drew has pointed out. If you decide to buy it and if the gun is pronounced safe by you or someone you trust to make the decision, Polywad or RST shells would be your best bet...Geo

Murphy, you referred to your gun as an A.J. Aubrey. If it has that name in engraved script in large letters on the frame and no other engraving, I may have one like it. Mine has 32" massive barrels and is one of the lower grades. I paid $200 for mine if that is any help to you....Geo

I have 117X T, T for twist, which I figure is just a year or so older than yours. Mine has been abused more than I like by someone who pretended to be a gunsmith. It does have rather nice engraving much like the art deco style, like Ithaca and Smith used in later guns. Sometimes you can find a grade stamped on the water-table, like 32 or 52 along with D for Damascus or T for twist. Pictures always help.
As to value I think this is at the upper limit for the basic Aubrey unless in very, very nice condition. But if you like it buy it anyways. Solid shooters are worth $500 in my book. Or I rather not shoot many guns that are not worth that much. You will look a long time to find them in high condition as they were mostly used hard and put up wet.

Well, I bought it $475. out the door. Serial 2925, 30 in. barrels full and full. T for twist. Seems all original. Any info on this will be appreciated. Planning to use either RST Vintage or Polywad Vintager shells.

Murphy sent me some pics of his new Aubrey. Looks like another nice number 34. This one has twist barrels...Geo
