Recently I bought an Army & Navy's "The Jungle Gun", built in 1905 for a W. Gothe esq., it is in good condition, aside from some pits inside its right barrel. It is a well kept boxlock, S. No. 43152, with intercepting sears, sports a Webley Screw-grip, doble triggers and ejectors. Barrels, of the brazed lump type, had been reblacked. The gun comes in its original canvas case. Dimensions: 28" barrels, 50/100 yard leaf rear sights, 12 gauge, 2.75" chambers, 3.055 Kg (6,67 lb) and 14.75" LOP. Most probably was built by Webbley & Scott, though nitro proofed by the London Proof House for 1 1/8 oz of shot and ball. Shot trials at plate had given Improve Cylinder patterns, very much in agreement with Greame Wrigth's findings ("Shooting the British Double Rifle", 2nd Ed., pp. 254-257). I would be grateful for any advice on what type of bullet/cartridge shall I try, since there are no loading instructions label on the case (markings show that there was one). Would a H&H made cartridge fit/regulate with it? EJSXS

I thought i had heard it all, but i've never heard of a jungle gun. Looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Congratulations. As for bullets, to the best of my knowledge the Jungle Gun ammo was identical to the Paradox. Holland&Holland offer a slug round for their Paradox guns, as I understand it it's a mild conservative low pressure low velocity load suitable for vintage guns too. H&H web site also has the instructions on how to tell if their Paradox ammo is OK to use in your gun. A bit expensive, yes, but it's a way to have factory ammo.

It is possible by 1905 it used rifled chokes does it? What is the bore diameter? All 1 1/8 oz proved Hollands and Westley rifled choke guns are 2 1/2 inch chambered. I would want the bore diameter prior to shooting the new paradox ammo.

yes H&H is a way to go, the problem is that the gun's bores have straight rifling from the forcing cone onwards up to three inch from the muzzle. In addition the bores are .730" only. One possible way to go would be to backbore to .735" (the H&H standard), leaving the last three inch of twisted rifling. Barrel wall minimun is now .040" and measures .055" min. in the "choke" area. .
As to the rifling, yes I may call it invisible, it has six grooves. The are no chokes at all, the only difference there is the twist and barrel wall thickness. Hope the British audience may have something to say on how they are currenlty using these ball and shot guns.
On another issue, yes it is surpring the unusual chamber length, it may have being enlarged.
