I've lived my whole life less than 10 miles away from the Springfield Armory, among other gun oriented landmarks.

Anyway, I read in the paper today that Building 104 is being torn down. Building 104 is the building where most of the M1 Garands were built. A parking lot will take its place.

At least someone voiced enough interest to arrange for a group of archaeologists from UMASS to have a go at the site. They're sifting through the layers of dirt underneath the concrete floors to try to find any interesting artifacts. The building site is shown on an old map (1830) as a military storehouse.

That's it, just a hometown boy's news from the front.

I visited there some years ago. Could have spent more time. What a heart piece of history. Stock duplicator was incredible!

jj, it touches my heart that you not only visited this historic landmark but also you obviously understood the significant pleasure you got from that visit.

You made my day!

Many Thanks - Marc
