I know a lot depends on condition but looking at purchasing an Ithaca Lewis Grade 5E two barrel set with steel barrels. Case color is about 80% and bluing on barrels is about 90%. What would the value be or at least blue book value.

The last Lewis 5E that I saw sold was at Julia's several years ago. It brought around $4000. Also, a two barrel set ( possibly the same gun as there can't be too many Lewis 5E two barrel sets out there). The last Quality 5 Crass, Minier and Flues that I have seen sold were in the same ballpark.

Seller is asking $7,750 which is a little steep to me considering that the gun sold in 2007 for $3750

I agree. I have tried to buy it several times and the seller is not interested in even talking about it for much less than he is asking. If you or I were to buy it for anywhere near that price...who would we ever sell it to down the road?

A little background...the previous owner tried for several years to sell it to no avail...his last asking price was less than 5k. He ended up sending it to auction. I was the high bidder but my bid was out of sequence (I did not know a lot about auction bidding at the time) and Julia's threw out my bid instead of reducing it to the next lower level....which would still have been more than they sold it for. They admitted that they made a mistake but the gun had already been picked up.

Either way I've been trying to work with this dealer and I cannot justify the price compared to current market value 2 barrels or not it's still not worth 5 to me

Note that price is the point of agreement between a willing seller and a willing buyer. Until then, it is ask and offer. Value is what market histroy says is the likely price. The downside is that the seller may never sell it and the buyer may never own it. However, in a free market both buyer and seller are free to maintain a non-agreement position for as long as they care to do so. Certainly you can/should bring to bear every argument and persuasion you can muster. However, there is no "big stick" to move the seller if he is disinclined to do so. Sorry.

Very true..why I turned it down seller was very rude to me making an offer even $200 lower than his asking price
