This mount by Griffin and Howe looks odd. Can anyone tell me about it? Thanks

That version of the G & H mount had a windage adjustment screw in the base for use with the pre-WWII German scopes that had only an elevation adjustment in the scope. Some scopes of that era and even after WWII came with 26mm or 26.5mm tubes. The distance between the top and bottom halves of the rings appear to be rings for 1" tubes that were adapted to use with the larger tube scopes. The rifle appears to be a well made modification of the 1903 Springfield. It would be nice to see a full length photo and hear more about that beautiful rifle.

Thanks for the reply, Herschel. Can you comment on the safety in the trigger guard?

I have seen that on custom guns before but only know that it is uncommon. There are people who follow this forum that will probably respond with information about it.

Here is another version of the windage adjustment G&H mount, without the micrometer feature.

Not uncommon, I've seen more on G&H rifles than others, a trigger block safety was used when the original safety was used or removed. I've seen at least two G&H that had both.

The rifle (looks like a G&H) has the wrong scope for the rings, because the rings are for a windage mount they will be hard to find, would be easier to replace the scope.

Can you post the G&H number on the barrel? Looks like 1476 and if that is so the caliber has been changed as well.

Added a picture of the number. It does look like 1476, but could be 1426. How could you know the number before I posted the picture?
