Recently acquired a single gun case for a Hussey Imperial and I am trying to figure out how the case may have been configured originally. If you happen to have an original Hussey case (HJ Hussey vintage) would you please post a picture.

Thank you,

JDG

I'm not shy. The case has definitely been modified and/or reconfigured over the past 100+years so I am trying to figure out what it may have actually looked like when it left the factory. I would like to see what other single-gun Hussey cases look like in an effort to possibly restore the case to it's original configuration.

Thanks again.

The bbl section has been altered a bit, but the rest looks right. You're lucky to have the lids for both compartments.

It looks like a standard, best-quality British oak & leather case.

These cases were made up in the trade and supplied to makers as required. They slapped their labels inside, added accessories (sometimes branded, sometimes not) and sent the cases/guns on their way.

I've seen everything from Greener FH35s to Boss O/Us in similar cases:

this case has been heavily modified, to make it look correct it will require a major
refit. You can look at other cases and get an idea for you layout. Single gun cases will all have some traditional layouts, barrel channel, butt stock, oil bottle, and snap cap spaces and maybe lids for compartments, more items may be used depending on space in case. I have refitted many cases and if i can answer any questions would be happy to help.

Great example, Guz. How long are the barrels on your Hussey?

Thanks,

I'm thinking that case is maybe an inch wider than mine. There is no way
I could fit 28" barrels and still have a compartment at the end.

I know my case has been modified but I don't believe the main divider for the receiver ever looked like yours unless it has been completely refitted. I think there was a small compartment for snap caps built into where the receiver lays, there was also a compartment, possibly for an oil bottle, in the left end of the triangular compartment between the receiver and the barrels and there was a block supporting the barrels which is now missing.

Hope others post photos. This is interesting.
