Researcher, I checked a couple of the 1897 Baker Quarterlies and their description of the Pigeon gun only says fluid steel, without any comment on source or type of steel. If you number does not have another digit, probably made in 1920, give or take. As to no. 480, probably 1898. The 46,000 range gun somewhere between 1915-1919.
