Looking for information on a English Hammer gun. Makers name is Field. Seems to be a very good quality gun. 30" Damascus Barrels very nice wood and engraving. Can't find any information on the maker. Thanks

Hello Big Country Welcome on your first posting
Most helpful would be good pictures of the markings on the rib, sidelock and proof marks
What address is listed on the rib with Field?
Again, Welcome Mike

There was an Alfred Field. The only one I had a good look at was proofed in Birmingham but had a London address on the rib.

I looked up Alfred Field on google,I thought I knew the name from somewhere. Seems he was a big birmingham sporting dealer, not sure if he was a Maker as such, that's what I gleaned..but I didn't spend much time reaserching it...is it nice?...throw us some pics If Field didn't build it , perhaps good pics of the whole gun & marks might tell the tale? Big country, Another potential maker is: Field John P & Co;14 Upper East Smithfield ,London. Active 1862-1866. There is also a family connection with the company, Parker Field & Sons a London gunmaker in business at various locations from 1822-1881. As recommended by by others ,Photographs of the gun including proof marks, together with details of any street address[ if any!]some times found on the top rib of the barrels provide vital clues to identify the maker and age of a gun.
