Hi Guys, I have enjoyed reading previous posts about the relative merits of gun restoration versus the "keep everything original as possible" doctrine. I thought you might like to see some photographs of my guns that have been strip clean & serviced, action re-lacquered, checquering cleaned and recut, fore ends de-oiled and all the woodwork given a coat of oil. This excelent work was carried out by the team at John Foster Gunmakers of Stockton on Tees, UK (who posts on this forum). Last game shooting season in the UK was very wet and the guns were subject to some terrible weather so an overhall was essential. The guns have not been "tarted up" to look like mutton dressed as lamb but have been expertly cleaned and serviced ready for the coming season regardless of the weather. Needless to say I am delighted with the work done. Bob ps thanks to all the members who gave advice on how to post photographs here using the new format of Photobucket

Beautiful pair of guns, tastefully refurbished - well done. to look like mutton dressed as lamb - great expression, much better than "old wine in a new bottle"
Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

Once again Bob, beautiful guns! The pair of Churchills appear to be built on the same Baker "12-20" action as the Lancasters. Are they as lightweight? Would love to hear more about the Churchill pair. Were they marketed as Premieres? (See photobucket link)

Dr. P The Churchills are indeed "Premiere's" and weigh :- Premiere No. 1 6lb 2.1 oz Premiere No. 2 6lb 2.4 oz
Lancaster No. 1 6lb 1.6 oz Lancaster No. 2 6lb 2.2 oz
So not much to choose from except when you consider the Churchills are 25 inch barrels and the Lancasters are 28 inches.

Hi Bob Thank you for those kind words. I am sorry that I missed you yesterday. I noticed your RR in my car park but I was dashing out to see my Doctor and I could not stop to see you.
Have fun this season. I look forward to seeing you soon. Regards John.
