I was in a local-to-me big gun store today and took the opportunity to look at one of the several Parkers they had on the rack. This one was a 20 ga Trojan. It had nice case colors (though I am not expert enough to discern original from reapplied, so let's not go there) and overall looked and felt ok.
It had the "Parker" name engraved into the floor, rather than "Parker Bros" on the sides, but the trigger guard tang bore a serial number 181xxx.
I thought the name moved to the floor and lost the "Bros" when Remington took over in the '30s. My Trojan is a late 20s gun with a serial 228xxx and it has the name on the sides.
Is the one in the store a composed gun?
Not for nothing, this particular store also recently had a GH tagged as a DH and the help seemed decidedly disinterested when I called them on it.

That wouldn't be Cabela's would it? The Cabela's in Buda TX has a "French" SXS with all Belgium proofs. I pointed out their error but they never changed it.

Rocdock, many French marked guns have Belgian proofs. Belgium was a supplier for all of Europe. Many guns marked Austrian, German, English and others had their start in Belgium.
On the Trojan with Parker only mark, has anyone looked it up in the Parker serialization Book ? There are "out of sequence" serial numbers in many American gunmaker's products. Many out of sequence serial numbers occur because certain frame sizes were made up in groups and maybe 20 ga. demand quantities fell behind the demand for 12s.

Could be it doesn't have the original trigger guard. Did you check the serial number on the forearm iron, barrels and watertable?
As to serial number order, Parker Bros./Parker seems to be more in order than most of the others.

No, I didn't feel like stripping it down to compare the serials in the other locations. And Cabelas doesn't stock (anywhere I've been able to find) the Parker serialization book.

The trigger guard really has nothing to do with the numbers on the water table. The water table stamps are probably more like a Remington number.

That 181,XXX serial number is too early to have the PARKER marking on the bottom of the frame. Guard bow might have been replaced. maybe the gun was refurbished like you suggest.
No need to break the gun all down. Opening it up is all that is needed. The locking lug and water table numbers can be seen fine when the gun is opened.
