Hi Jim:
I have found that J-B compound is not very abrasive!! Will not harm a barrel.
Flitz will wear a barrel as it is slightly abrasive.
I have not used losso but I think that it is abrasive like the Flitz.
Many years ago, when Hodgon started selling ball powders, people claimed that ity left a fouling behind that was difficult to remove. Hodgon suggested that one used Bon Ami cleanser to clean the ball powder fouling from rifle barrels. I have done this for about 50 years and I have not had any problems. Mix a paste of oil and Bon Ami and use it on a cloth patch.
I have been told that the abrasive in J-B bore paste and the abrasive in Bon Ami are one and the same. Perhaps the abrasive in the J-B has been screened for a more consistent size.
What are you attempting to remove?
Good luck,
Franchi

For smokeless powder/non corrosive weapons cleaning I've been using plain old Hoppe's for more years then I care to remember. If you have a badly fouled weapon the best approach I've found is to get some Hoppe's spread throughout the barrel, plug both ends and let it sit overnight. The gunk will usually brush right out the next day. Jim

thanks for the input. Franchi, not many folks can offer 50 years of personal experience.
I'm looking ahead to the end of grouse season in 4 weeks, and as I've never done more than brush/swab the bores on a half dozen guns with clp, I was looking for something to do a more thorough job. I've recently started an EEZOX regimen on one older double & like that a lot so far.
I think the Iosso product is fairly new...J-B/Flitz obviously been around awhile.

If you are talking shotguns just use a bore brush wrapped with 2o steel wool, add Hoppe's and a portable drill. It will clean and polish the SHOTGUN barrel to perfection.

Hi Jim:
You got great advice from the previous posters!
I have used the products that you mentioned in your post for cleaning rifle barrels. I do not think that they would do any better than steel wool in a shotgun bore!
For cleaning shot guns, I use a mix of ATF and acetone. This is also the best penetrating oil that I have ever used.
One could play with mixing different solvents with the ATF and develop a cleaner that would not harm stock finishes and plastic parts like the acetone will.
I also like a spray brake cleaner to clean parts that I can not gain access to easily!
Good luck,
Franchi
