I ran across a no name Italian 28ga O/U at a local gun shop that was made in 1968 with false sideplates, double triggers, extractors, 27.5" barrels choked full/imp, POW grip and is really lightweight at 5lbs. The gun has no engraving and no makers marks other than the proof marks. Numbers match and it is tight as a tick, plus all of the signs are there that is is well made gun. The dealer is asking $850 for the gun. I am looking at it for shooting, and clearly not an investment piece. On paper is awesome and it fits me really well too. Am I crazy to think about buying this gun?

I would check the triggers with snap caps. A nine pound trigger pull on a five pound gun makes it useless for me.

Since it has double triggers and extractors it avoids the two most common breech-loading gun problems: ejectors and single trigger.

Probably a good deal, but it might not be.

Pictures would be helpful I think.

Best,

Mike

Sounds like a deal to me too, if the triggers check out. And there might be maker's proprietary mark lurking somewhere among the proofmarks.

Low risk but extractors in an o/u are annoying at best on the lower barrel. Perhaps as a new toy it would be fun but I think you would find it less than ideal as a field gun and perhaps more so as a skeet gun.

The maker's mark is probably on the flats somewhere.

Upon second inspection, appears to be a Breda.
