I recently picked up a Prussian Sauer in excellent condition. The bore diameter is .715; I had never seen such a tight bore. Wall thickness is approximately .030. I use sub-7,000 psi loads in all my doubles, but with a bore as tight as this one how much affect (if any) will this have on pressure? Thanks.

That's a very common bore for Continental guns of an earlier period. While it only seems to be logical that pressures would increase slightly I don't think it would be enough to concern yourself. At least I've never heard of any problems. I shoot everything out of a 1922 Sauer with that diameter and have never had any problem.

I also have Sauers and other German guns of the period with bores of that diameter or very near that diameter, just not a problem at all. They were all designed to use felt and card wads and were simply tighter bored than today's guns. If it's in excellent condition as you say, you shouldn't have any problems related to the smaller bore.

I've also seen quite a few German guns with bore diameters tighter than standard. However, my 20ga Sauer, imported by A&F in 1936, is just the opposite. It's actually a 19, so marked on the flats, and the bores measure .626 rather than the 20ga standard .615. Quite a few post-WWII German guns are also underbored. Often true in particular of E. German guns.

My VL&D/Sauer 12ga from around 1901 is marked 13/1 om both bbls. I have not actually checked them but they should run to at least .719" This is about a 7˝lb gun with 2 3/4" chambers marked 70 on the extractor face.
I have a W Richards (neither William or Westley) hammer 12ga whose bbls are marked 14. It predates chamber marks but has been 12ga for many years at least. It came to me via family & due to its condition I have never shot it, but know for a fact that in spite of its short chambers & twist bbls it has digested a goodly number of 2 3/4" "High Brass" 4s.
