Greg: A very light oil, such as WD-40 etc., and 0000 steel wool, rubbing lightly in one longitudinal direction........ Clean, then wax with a good Carnuba based wax, then clean again, let dry and use EEZOX....... http://www.warrencustomoutdoor.com/pl-eezox.html#eezoxBest,

I use 0000 brass wool, steel wool if thats all you can find with some light oil, soak the wool and buff it away.I get the brass wool from boat shops.

Are you talking little pits or like water spots?

No pitting just light spotting.
Thanks!

Greg Greg, you went from freckling on your first post to light spotting here....?.... Have you tried wax first to see if a nice rub down, wax job, removes the spots....?...........That should be your first approach IMO..... Without seeing it, we're all just poking around in the dark....Post a photo.....thanks...... Best,
Doug

Thanks guys. the gun belongs to a friend of mine at work, I'm just getting some ideas for him. I've seen the gun, IMO it's not that big of a deal, but he's all worked up over it so I said I'd do some checking for him.
Thanks for all the great suggestions!
Greg

Has anyone tried "Magic Eraser" (melamine foam) instead of 0000 steel wool? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melamine_foamSteve

I have a foolproof solution ! First take a tube of FLITZ POLISH [available at any Lowe's]and GENTLY rub the freckling with a tiny amount of the Flitz spread on a soft clean cloth [the fluffier the better e.g. diaper dust cloths] in a circular motion. Then follow with Renaissance Microcrystalline Wax [available at Brownell's, as is the Flitz]to penetrate the metal and lift the rust particles out of the metal's pores and then protect it from coming back. Voi'la Rust is Gone. I have used this method on guns ranging from $20 pistols to Model 21's and Griffin and Howe Rifles...it always works as long as you RUB GENTLY...GO SLOW...DARKEN THE BLUE WITH WAX OFTEN TO GET AND IDEA OF HOW MUCH YOU MIGHT BE TAKING OFF [IF YOU CONTINUE] AND ALWAYS REMEMBER...WITH ANY POLISHING... LESS IS BEST!!! GOOD LUCK! HTH Jerry
