Shot with the Vintagers Sunday at Golden Gun Club. I was squadded with a chap who had a newish Merkel 12 bore, dunno what model SxS. Single trigger, It doubled 6 times in a hundred rounds. He said it had been back for correction twice already...Is this a common problem? Gun is under warranty.

Merkel single triggers can be tricky . Very similar to that of Westley Richards . One thing I have discovered is that you can not have light pulls and although the factory tries to get them as crip as possible one cure is to weight them .Personaly I am not a fan.

"Merkel single triggers can be tricky" Does this apply to O/U guns as well? I have a 303E - and it has always had a heavy (though crisp) trigger. I have thought of having a gunsmith look at it, but if its an inherent 'feature' I might as well save my time. It does however always work faultlessly and is fully selective even if the selector is in an unusual place. I also have a double trigger Merkel, which also has heavy pulls. Perhaps its a 'family trait'?

I have 2 DT SxS Merkels and the triggers on both are very crisp and neither gun has ever doubled. I don't know what the pull weight is, never having measured it, but it is certainly in the range of all my other DTs.

I have a few Lefevers, a Parker, and LC Smith or two, with double triggers that never double. The subject of this post however, is a SINGLE trigger Merkel...

I had a Merkel 47E.
New.
What I found was that if you were not careful, and the barrel selector ended up in the middle... it would double every time.
It's the nature of the beast.
The barrel selector is in a piss poor place, and the detent isn't well enough engineered to prevent the center position.
GSI offered to fix it, but I didn't really like the gun that much anyway. It found a new owner.
