smlekid,
That's a good question...if you have an LC Smith for example, there were several systems used. How would someone tell if they had Hurst & Schultz ejectors, Rosenberg & Schultz, or Lewis ejectors? (there's probably be more).

A friend and I had theorized that...if your selling a Smith with ejectors, wouldn't it be nice to know if your gun is the only known one with Hurst ejectors BEFORE you sell it?

We began photographing dozens of ejector mechamisms and single trigger systems in order to chronicle the evolution of American made guns. Unfortunately, the resident bum scoop mill from this BBS system brought about the demise of the collaberation and now everyone must do without that reference book.

I hope that in the future someone else will take up that project and publish a badly needed book.

You can recognise many ejector systems by taking off the forend and looking at the iron. You have to be able to recognise the various types though. It is easy to spot a Boss or a Southgate or a Deeley etc but many ejector systems were none of the above and you can't really see what they have in their guts until you remove the forend wood from the iron.

No not at all .For most common types of British ejectors ,Baker Deeley , Southgate/Holland , Boss and Purdey .There were of course many variations to get around different patents as well as a few that did not stand the test of time due to there compexity or on going problems such as Needhamsas used by Greener or that of Perkes[?] which was in many ways similar to that of a Deely box.
I am sure others who are skilled in these things will in due coarse post photos of all these examples .
