We've lost one of the world's great engravers, and a very nice man. Only 59. What a shame. Rest in peace, Phillipe.

A world class engraver and person and a great friend to his fellow engravers. Truly will be missed!

Sad news indeed, I first met Phillipe when he traveled with Rene to a friend's ranch one summer in the 70's. He was a young man then and already skilled to a degree hard to imagine. He has done some remarkable work and will be remembered for his deportment and largess by any who knew him and his work by any viewing it, now or in times to come.
God speed, my friend.

Just a terrible, terrible loss. Phil was simply a prince of a man. My sympathy to all of his many friends and family.
Rest easy "PGM"; may your graver stay sharp and your steel mild........

This news came as a terrible shock to the international community of gun engravers. Many condolences as well as expressions of admiration and respect have been posted on the two most prominent engraving forums. For those unfamiliar with Phil or his work, there is a brief biography and a few images of his work on the GRS training Center's Grand Masters web site. Phil was one of the international Grand Masters who taught at the center. Here is the link: http://www.grandmastersprogram.com/masters/philippe-grifnee/Requisat in pace Philippe Grifnee.

Roger, thanks for putting pictures of Mr. Grifnee's work on the post. It's really an unbelievable lasting tribute to him.

He was, without a doubt, one of the best of our generation!
I will forever treasure the week I spent studying with him at the GRS Training Center in Kansas. There is still even today, sadness in my heart when I think of him leaving so soon......he will be greatly missed. My condolences to his friends & family in Belgium,
Weldon Lister
