A shirt-tail relative gave me, I believe,a Zimmerstutzen rifle. I've trolled the internet a bit and can't quite find anything exactly like this rifle/gun. This one is hammerless with a cocking lever and an action that approximates the size/shape of a small Martini but no falling block. It has the removable short rifled barrel--approximately 10" long--and a weird loading contraption 2/3 up the length of the length of the barrel. Alas, a previous owner removed what was likely a very fine rear aperature tang sight. Where can I go for some information and approximate value of this odd duck?

I would look toward Carl Stiegele or Carl Stiegele, Junior: http://www.littlegun.info/arme%20allemande/artisan%20s%20t/a%20stiegele%20gb.htm

Can you post some images of the contraption?

Kind Regards,

This forum is amazing! Mike, with my lame description I believe you've nailed it. The zimmerstutzen on the cover page is nearly identical to the one I've got. Raimey, let me give posting pictures another whirl. Right now the gun is home and I'm not, will give it a whirl in the next day or so.

A friend and I have purchased 4mm ammo there. Easy to deal with. Those zimmerstutzens are a hoot. The one we shoot occasionally is extremely accurate out to a surprising distance. Our targets of choice are Necco wafers at 25 yds.
