BBB to answer your question............no, I don't think anyone is keeping count. I'm not and I've never seen any scam statistics posted here. Since you asked the question and have actually been involved in a "situation", would you be interested in being the board statistician on such things? Scamees could report their experiences to you and after a complete analysis you could report back here with conclusions and recommendations.
Your point, though, is well taken. The buyer should always beware. We all do the best we can.

Woo ~ Hoo! After 4 pages someone stepped up with an answer to the question which is the subject of my post. Thank you, Mr Blair. I'm afraid my hat isn't in the ring for such a thing, though I do think it's a good idea, if one of the other good people would want to keep track. Heck, it may assist a possible victim.

If the facts are as you state them, there's no risk in telling us who sold it to you, and no reason to refuse to tell us -- heck, the only outcome is you may assist possible future victims. If you won't reveal the name, your whole premise is BS.

Instead of leaving it completely up to others, how about you assist a possible victim and say who scammed you. Your reluctance suggests it might not be as clear cut as has been told to the board.

Gentlemen, I appreciate all your attempts to persuade me to name the person, but I have my reasons for not doing that. At the time it occurred, I did speak to Dave about it and made him aware of the situation so he could watch that he didn't come back and try again.
Amarillo Mike, I went back and searched also and I could not find the post either. It was up for several days and more than a couple of board members went back & forth with the poster. If I remember, the post title was "Once in a lifetime model 21" or close to that. Been a while, like, say, August of 2008. What a character, trying to pass off a 30" well used field gun for a once in a lifetime model 21 with 28" bbls., on a board like this. A successful character, to some extent. He was a C & R license holder too.

Lets say that BBB followed the advice from "Dave in Maine" and had the gun sold for less than he paid and wanted to sue for the remaining amount, where would he have to appear for Court? If the seller was across country, It would not be cost effective to travel for that amount of money.
