Have two problems with two different guns. First is a 28 gauge that upon firing one barrel, both barrels eject shells. The other is a 16 gauge that is lightly striking on the open barrel. Sometimes it fires, sometimes you just get a dent in the primers. Was thinking GSI, but would like to hear who others are using for their German gun work. Appreciate any ideas. Thanks

Dietrch Appel at New England Custom Gun Service, Ltd. is another option.

for the misfires, make sure you're not using cheesy primers. Try Win. 209s

You might want to post this on the German and Austrian sub forum as well. Another potential source is the German Gun Collector's Ass'n.

I believe Dietrich Appel has retired from NECG.

Dietrich has retired (about 10 years ago), but the company is still functioning at a very high level. They've worked on my Merkel, and I have been very happy with it.

tut: I don't know where you are located, but Jim Kelly at Darlington Gun Works, Darlington, South Carolina does all
my gunsmithing. He just repaired a pre-war Merkle for me that would not unbreach all the way. His phone number is (843) 393-3931. He learned his trade in the USAF in Germany at the end of WWII and was trained by German gunsmiths.

Best Regards, George

I've had good luck with NECG.

Also, if Herbert at Merkel USA (www.merkel-usa.com, and formerly GSI Firearms) is still there, he is an excellent gunsmith.

Good luck.

Thanks for the responses. I knew that GSI was the importer for years and did all the warranty work, but thought that relationship may have expired etc. Just seems a tad confusing who does what these days.
