Hi folks, Ive been after a large bore (10 bore) muzzle loader for a while. A friend bought this over, not his, a private sale though and I got it for what I consider a very reasonable price. It is only single barrel and not from a well known maker. Basically as far as I can see a barrel maker from Brum who retailed the odd gun. I think almost certainly made in Birmingham. Anyway, I like it. Just going to tidy it up remove rust and re do the stock because its a bit horrid.

Tony,
This will be interesting, I recently refinished my great grandfathers 1863 Springfield Civil War musket and purposely left all the dings and scratches pretty much intact, the idea being to not remove the guns honest wear character. This gun reminds me somewhat of that musket and it'll be interesting to see what could have been, had I gone for a "London Best" refinish.

Hell no! By all means work your magic on this old gun. I'd like to see you over do it!

Ah Tony, I had the feeling you'd get hooked on the BOOM with the billowing clouds of white smoke afterwards! And you hanging around with members of the Black Hand Gang was certainly a tip off of things to come.

Looks like you caught a nice one there. Your plans on which areas to concentrate seem perfectly spot on.

Have a BLAST!

Happy to see you are on to another project!

The forend is reminiscent of rifles I've seen, any possibility it was re-barreled along the way?

Keep us apprised of your progress.
