Well, the Winfer book seems to be lacking, so.....HELP!
I am building Henry style rifle, and need to know how the firing pin is arranged. Pictures of assembled rifles doesn't show that. I think it is similar to the Sharps firing pin.
Anyone with an Alex Henry side hammer rifle that can share some info??

Its spring loaded and on a pretty steep angle. A transfer bar and in line firing pin arrangement like on Steve Earle's Wesson is far superior in my mind.

Starfire, I saw two a couple days ago and they are like SKB said. They are at an angle from where the hammer strikes the firing pin to the primer; no transfer bar. A gunsmith friend is building one from scratch and has most of another one that he's working with as a model. Do not drill the hole to the center of the breechblock as that will cause the firing pin to hit the primer on one side and end up denting the primer pocket. He showed me all the timing involved to get everything to work just right. Bob

OSF sorry mine's at the smith's. Mike - When will it be back? I dont need the info today, (-2F today) but soon would be nice. Odd that a craftsman like Alex H would use a (crude) angled firing pin. No one else have a Alex Henry?
